Service is our Third Legacy. Service to others and to the Fellowship reminds us that we owe our sobriety to the work of earlier members, and that our continued sobriety may depend on the hundreds of thousands who still need to learn of AA.

Like most service positions in AA, The Grand Strand Intergroup positions are a 2-year term will be changing in January.   In October we will be accepting nominations for GSIG Officers and Committee Chairs, and then in November we will vote.   Attached is a brief description of the service positions that need to be filled.   Our hope is that you consider a service position in the GSIG.  Our monthly business meeting is held of the 3rd Monday night of the month at 7 PM – 940 Broadway St., Myrtle Beach. October’s meeting with nominations will be held on October 20, 2025 at 7:00PM.

INTERGROUP OFFICERS

Chairperson & Alternate Chairperson: The chairperson is responsible for the smooth running of the Intergroup monthly meeting. They keep the Intergroup Reps and Committee Chairs informed of what’s going on in the area.  The Chairperson should understand the 12 Steps and 12 Traditions.  Communication skills, leadership qualities and sensitivity to the wishes of the local area are also important.  Should have  some prior experience with GSIG, such as a GSIG Representative or committee chairperson. A Chairperson should have a minimum of 5 years of continuous sobriety.

Secretary & Alternate Secretary: The secretary is responsible for recording and distributing the minutes of the monthly meeting and Treasurer’s Report.  Maintain Intergroup Representative and   Committee Chairs contact information.   Some background in general office work is helpful.  The Secretary should have a minimum of 2 years of continuous sobriety.

Treasurer & Alternate Treasurer: The treasurer is responsible for record keeping and financial control.  The treasurer is responsible for paying the routine bills and for keeping accurate records of the Intergroup’s funds. The treasurer needs to be well informed about how the group’s money is spent and should have addresses and mailing information for all expenses. Maintain accurate records of receipt of 7th   tradition contributions by groups and literature sales.

The Treasurer takes reasonable precautions to safeguard Intergroup’s finances funds, including verifying all bank account statements and follow-up with outstanding bills for literature. They should be organized and have some accounting or bookkeeping experience. The treasurer should have a minimum of 5 years of continuous sobriety.

COMMITTEE CHAIRS

Accessibility: Explore, develop and offer resources to make the A.A. message and participation in our program accessible to everyone.

Corrections: Coordinate the work of individual A.A. members and groups who are interested in carrying our message of recovery to alcoholics behind prison walls

Literature: Ensure the Intergroup Office has literature available for sales.    Work closely with the Office Manager to maintain inventory.

Treatment: Coordinates groups who sign up to bring meetings and share their experience, strength, and hope with the alcoholic who still suffers by taking meeting into treatment facilities.

Phone Service: Hotline volunteers are often the first contact for AA, and keep the phones staffed 24 hours a day by taking calls from home.  The chairperson is responsible for coordinating the group phone service calendar and providing groups with any necessary information.

Public Information/ Cooperation with Professional Community (PI/PCP): Meets with the media, schools, clubs, and the public provide literature, contact information and answer questions about AA.  Keeps the professional community that works with alcoholics, such as medical & treatment professionals, clergy, lawyers, educators & law enforcement, informed about AA.  Places A.A. literature in libraries, Chambers of Commerce, schools, doctor’s offices, churches, buses, etc.

Publications: Write the GSIG’S Beachcomber newsletter.   Ensure adequate copies of meeting list and Meeting in a Pocket are available for sale.

Special Events Committee: Organizes events for AA members such as the annual Founder’s Day Celebration and New Year’s Eve Alcathon.    May help organize training and workshops provided by the GSIG.

Webmaster: Ensure that information posted on the website is as accurate and easily accessible digital materials including the website and email distribution.  Posts Event flyers and updates meeting lists.  

Office Manager: Ensure the office is open and staffed during the hours designated by the GSIG.   Check GSIG office answering machines and ensure that all incoming calls and messages are handled properly.  Literature inventory is maintained in the cabinets and works closely with the literature chairperson to keep track of the inventory. Work closely with the treasurer to ensure that money from sales is properly handled.  Coordinate the volunteer schedule and train new volunteers in office responsibilities
